59 Couples Tied the Knot at the LGU-Iligan Mass Wedding

(Monday17th day of June 2019)

Iligan City – The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Iligan offered a free mass wedding on June 14 at the Atrium, Robinsons Place Iligan. Most of the wedded couples have lived together for years and others already have their offspring.

City Mayor Celso Regencia solemnized the union of the 59 couples. In his message to the newly-wed couples, he shared an advice of his own life, “Ang kaminyoon dili lang puro palami, sa mga lalaki naa mo’y mga responisibilidad nga buhion ang inyong pamilya isip haligi sa panimalay,” (Marriage is not always about pleasure. To all men, you have a responsibility, to provide for your family as the foundation of the household.)

“Wala’y kaminyoon nga perpekto apan kon dawaton nato ang usa’g-usa, unya magpasayloay sa mga shortcomings sa usa’g-usa, eventually ang kaminyoon mahimo nga perpekto,” (There is no perfect marriage but if we accept one another, and we forgive each other’s shortcomings eventually, the marriage will be perfect,) Councilor Belinda Lim also advised.

Lastly, Councilor Ryan Ong shared his three secrets or tips to a happy marriage life, one is make God the center of your relationship, second, couples must sleep in the same bed and lastly, couples must make quality time with each other.

The Office of the City Civil Registrar headed by Ms. Maria Pura C. Mascariñas organized the mass wedding and was urging couples in a live-in relationship to avail of the city’s-sponsored mass wedding for the benefit of their children. It has also been a tradition in this city as part of local officials’ drive to legitimize the so-called “unions of convenience” of usually financially-strapped couples.

The local government shouldered the reception, bouquet of flowers, wedding cakes, and souvenirs for the newly-wed couples.
