Acting Mayor Vera Cruz leads the mass oath-taking of newly elected SK and Barangay Officials in the City Government of Iligan

(Tuesday, 3rd day of July 2018)


Iligan City took a step forward in its normalization process as the recently elected Barangay and (SK) Sangguniang Kabataan officials last May 14, 2018 Barangay Election representing the 44 barangays of Iligan City all took their oath of office on June 30, 2018, 8 o’clock in the morning at MSU-IIT Gymnasium, Tibanga, Iligan City.

Acting City Mayor Msgr. Jemar L. Vera Cruz stood as witness and led the mass oath taking ceremony and Acting Vice mayor Samuel P. Huertas as well with a welcome address. Sangguniang Panlungsod Members Councilor Petronilo Pardillo, Councilor Jesse Ray Balanay, Councilor Dra. Belinda Lim, Councilor. Cesarve Siacor, Councilor Rolando So-ong, Councilor Atty. Demosthenes Plando and Councilor Ryan Ong also graced the occasion. Ms. Elizabeth Buna, City Director of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Iligan City facilitates the acknowledgement of guests and introduction of Barangay and SK Officials. In his message, Acting Mayor Vera Cruz urged all newly elected officials to do their jobs properly as public servants to meet their constituents needed services. He assured the newly elected Barangay Officials that he will continue to support whatever projects and development they will render to their respective barangays in behalf of the suspended Mayor Celso G. Regencia. “Sa tanang Barangay nga wala pa na deklara nga drug-free naglaum ako sa mga bag-ong napiling opisyales nga hatagan ug atensyon ang ilegal nga droga sa ilang ginsakpang barangay hilabi na ang barangay Tambacan,” (To all the barangays that are not yet declared drug-free, I hope the newly-elected officials would pay attention to the illegal drug issues in your area especially barangay Tambacan).

Acting Mayor Vera Cruz asked the barangay captain of Tambacan, Jimmy C. Sale, to stand and help his administration in the fight against illegal drugs. He also challenged the barangay councilors to be responsible, uphold their mandate, and do their share in the government’s war on drugs with the help of the Iligan Police City Director P/Sr. Supt. Col. Leony Roy Ga through implementing the regular curfew hours. The mass oath-taking symbolized unity among the barangay officials, constituents and the LGU headed by Acting Mayor Vera Cruz to stand and unify in work for the progress of the entire city. The projects and programs of the government especially in the LGU will be realized because of the encouragement, support and efforts of the barangay officials. Through the barangay officials the services especially the basic services needed by the community will be heard. The rules of the barangay officials are important to the development of the barangays. The people had chosen the barangay officials who took their oath of office to be the leaders and servant to a progressive society.

The ceremony also presented the captivating talents of Marlou M. Flores, a defending champion one-time “Tawag ng Tanghalan” and Ms. Joules Marie P. Don, SK Chairperson of Brgy. Ma. Cristina held after the oath-taking ceremony. The presence of their respective families, friends and supporters made the occasion memorable. The officials will assume their duty on July 1, 2018.
