Alvarez Installed as New City Police Director

Iligan City Police Director Leony Roy G. Ga turned over the reign to incoming Police Senior Supt. Manuel Sukarno B. Alvarez in a ceremony held at three o’clock pm on July 13 at Camp Tomas L. Cabili, Tipanoy, Iligan City. The event was attended by the Acting Mayor (Vice Mayor) Msgr. Jemar L. Vera Cruz and Mayor Celso G. Regencia in the presence of the police force and personnel.

Police Superintendent (PSupt.) Tyrone V. Masigon, Deputy Police Director for Administration, installed PSSupt. Manuel Sukarno B. Alvarez as the new Officer-In-Charge. Alvarez promised to do his new duties and responsibilities and to deliver the services needed by the people especially on the threats brought by terrorism such as the Marawi siege.

Acting Mayor Vera Cruz, in his speech during the turnover rites, said he believes that PSSupt. Alvarez will be able to continue the peace and order situation in the City under the leadership of PSSupt. Leony Roy Ga. and Vera Cruz promised that the Local Government Unit will support the programs the PNP will implement in the future. Furthermore, the city government will provide the resources the PNP needs in maintaining peace and order. The Acting Mayor also urged PSSupt. Alvarez to continue what PSSupt. Leony Ga has done in the city and challenged him to continue to run after the people who are in the illegal drug trade, he also challenged the police officer to encourage the men and women in uniform to live with dignity as police professionals. Acting Mayor Vera Cruz also called for the barangay captains to coordinate and cooperate with the police in its campaign against illegal drugs.

PSSupt. Alvarez’s appointment was very much welcomed by his subordinates, the Acting Mayor Vera Cruz, City Mayor Celso Regencia, as well as by the constituents of the city.
