(Wednesday, 17th of March 2021)

Iligan City – a groundbreaking ceremony for the Improvement of the Anahaw Amphitheater Cultural Heritage Project was held at the Anahaw Amphitheatre, Buhanginan Hills, Pala-o, Iligan City on March 17.

Located on the southeastern side of Buhanginan Hills is the Anahaw Amphitheater, which is a venue for concerts, sports tournaments, celebrations, and other activities. The idea for the amphitheater was conceived by the former Mayor Camilo P. Cabili and was built in the late 1970s. The initial plan was to build a stage and its backdrop would be the Anahaw leaves, however, the original plan for the stage was never built but the project name remained. Anahaw Amphitheater is also the venue of Iligan’s annual Kasadya Street Dancing Showdown, Silent drill, and many other Diyandi events which are attended by residents and tourists alike. The area has become one of the many attractions in Iligan.

The Improvement of Anahaw Amphitheatre Cultural Heritage Project focuses mainly on the improvement of existing but broken-down structures such as the concrete bleachers and stairways, retaining walls, and perimeter guard railings. The project would also cover the rehabilitation of the existing basketball court, and the addition of pathways and jogging area on the upper portion of the amphitheater, following proper construction and safety and health program. The said project would also constitute the beautification, landscape design, and lighting of the whole area.

The total amount of the project is P18,334,918.00, however, Mamsar Construction and Industrial Corporation won the bidding with a contract amount of P17,712,288.10. The project is funded by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) headed by Secretary Wendel E. Avisado. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Celso G. Regencia, Vice-Mayor Jemar L. Vera Cruz, the Councilors, and the department heads of the involved offices.

The project aims to finish after six (6) months considering that there won’t be any major hindrances and unforeseen inconvenience.
