Iligan Celebrates Araw ng Kagitingan and Phil. Veterans Week

(Wednesday, 11th day of April 2018)

ILIGAN CITY – The local government celebrated the 76th Araw ng Kagitingan with the theme: “Kagitingan at Pagmamahal sa Pilipinas Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago” on April 9, 2018 at the Iligan City Public Plaza. On this Day of Valor, the local government of Iligan paid tribute to the heroism and gallantry of the Filipino soldiers who fought against the Japanese forces in defense of the country’s democracy. The event was led by City Mayor, Celso G. Regencia, Vice-mayor Jemar Vera Cruz, the 16 Council members, department heads, barangay officials, private sectors and local government employees. It was the first time that the city celebrated jointly the Araw ng Kagitingan and the Philippine Veterans Week which was fully supported by the local officials and the Iliganons. The Philippine Veterans Week was observed on April 5-11, 2018. It was the first time for such an event to take place and it was made possible by the Regencia Administration where members of the Iligan City Veterans District gathered and were commended for their bravery and courage to fight for our land. Mayor Regencia delivered his speech themed “Ka-isog” (“Bravery”) before the guests and onlookers. “Isog moatubang sa kamatuoran isog nga magpabilin nga mapahiubsanon, dili kay isog nga mapahitas-on; Isog moatubang sa kalisdanan sa kinabuhi. Kung kita makabalo modawat sa kamatuoran ug kabalo moyukbo kung unsa ang naa nalatid sa balaod, kana ikaw pagatawagon nga usa ka isog” (“Strong in facing the truth while staying humble, not fierce and proud; courageous to face all the challenges in life. If we know how to accept the truth and know how to abide by the rules, then you can be called strong,”) he said.
