Iligan City opens the first-ever ‘Botika ng Bayan’

ILIGAN CITY- The City Local Government of Iligan in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) launched here Thursday the first “Botika ng Bayan” (BNB) in the City, aimed at helping the poor avail of essential medicinesfor free.

Mayor Celso G. Regencia said, that through Botika ng Bayan, indigents and marginalized sectors in the community who seek assistance from the government can easily access essential medicines for common diseases.

He also clarifies that the medicines from BnB are given for free and should be in good pharmacy practice and responsive and compassionate care to its clients.

Located in the City Health Office (CHO) in Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City, the BnB is a drug outlet managed by the local government unit (LGU), with licensed pharmacists and trained pharmacy assistants who will educate and counsel the patients about their medications. This serves as part of the CHO’s dry run for the Universal Health Care Law implementation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cherlina Cañaveral, CHO Head, thanked Mayor Regencia, SP Committee Chair City Councilor Lamberto Macapagal Jr., and Department of Health for the support and realization of the project. DOH Director of Region 10 Dr. Adriano P. Subaan, also congratulated Iligan City for meeting the requirements set for the establishment of a Botika ng Bayan.

The launch was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the signing of the Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA) led by Mayor Celso G. Regencia, DOH X-Regional Director Dr. Adriano P. Subaan, CHO Head Dr. Cherlina Cañaveral, SP Committee Chairman on Health Councilor Lamberto Macapagal Jr., and GTLMH Chief of Hospital Dr. Eflieda Valdehueza.
