Iligan City Welcomes a New Addition to the Iligan City Bureau of Fire Protection

(Tuesday18th day of February 2020)

Iligan City – The city welcomed the 10,000 Liter capacity Japan-made Isuzu Motors Ltd. Fire Tender during the flag-raising ceremony at the Anahaw Amphitheatre on February 17.

Released on February 11, 2020, the fire tender/tanker that arrived is part of the 260 fire trucks procured by the President Rodrigo Duterte and is one of the five fire trucks allocated for the Region X.

A tanker truck such as this, which can also be known as a water tender or water bowser, is a specialist fire appliance with the primary purpose of transporting large amounts of water to the fire area to make it available for extinguishing operations. These are especially useful in rural areas where fire hydrants are not readily available and natural water resources are insufficient or difficult to exploit. Most tankers have an on-board pumping system. This pump is often not of sufficient power to fight fires (as it is designed to be attached to a fire engine) but is more often used to draw water into the tender from hydrants or other water sources. Many tankers are equipped with fast-drain valves on the sides and back of the truck. This allows firefighters to empty thousands of gallons of water into a portable water tank in just a few seconds. Bureau Fire Protection Fire Marshal FCI Butch Baulete is glad to share that the new National Fire Chief, Fire Director Jose Segundo Embang Jr., is a classmate of our beloved city mayor from the Philippine National Police Academy, “Tagapaglingkod” Class of 1987, and that assistance could be just around the corner if needed. This donation has also been made possible because of the assistance of Senator Bong Go. Mr. Baulete is thankful for the attention and assistance the LGU especially the city mayor and the vice-mayor are giving to their office and he also added that there are more of these fire trucks coming.
