ILIGAN VOLUNTEER PROBATION AIDE PROGRAM A SUCCESS

(Tuesday, 6th day of August 2013)

During the scheduled Monday morning Flag Raising Ceremony program held at the Anahaw Amphitheater, Buhanginan Hill, Iligan City on August 5, 201 hosted by City Planning and Development Office, the PPA (the Parole & Probation Administration) bestowed awards on several volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Administration program.

plaque The Parole and Probation Administration Office claimed success in its Volunteer Probation Aide program with most of its clients reaping the benefits of the program.

A Regional and National awards as “Most Outstanding Volunteer” was given to Volunteer Probation Aide Rehabilitators Inc, Association, while Volunteer Probation Aide (VPA) President Barangay Captain Pablito Abragan Jr.; Regional and National awardee as Outstanding Volunteer Probation Aide; 2009 to 2012 VPA-Iligans’ “Grand Slam Regional Awardee”; 2010- 3rd National Awardee as Outstanding Volunteer Probation Aide Rehabilitators Inc., Association.

To rehabilitate probationers, parolees, pardonees and promote their development as integral persons by utilizing innovative interventions and techniques which respect the dignity of man and recognize his divine destiny is the mission of the PPA.

The Parole and Probation Administration has 3 Major Programs namely: (1) THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY where the client will be given training and seminars in the hope that they will eventually live a normal life. Furthermore, the primary “therapist” and teacher is the community itself, consisting of peers, staff/probation and parole officers and even Volunteer Probation Aides (VPA), who, as role models of successful personal change, serves as guides in the recovery process. (2) RESTORATIVE JUSTICE is where the variant or probationers, parloees, conditional pardoness and their victim has the chance to talk to each other because inside the court they can only engage with court proceeding with their lawyer but in the Parole and Probation Office they have included a program in the restoration relationship between the victim and the accused to re-establish the broken relationship between the stakeholder. Lastly, (3) VPA0 (VOLUNTEER PROBATION AIDE PROGRAM) through Presidential Decree No. 968 otherwise known as the Probation Law of 1976 authorizes the appointment of citizens of good repute and probity to act as probation aides to assist in the supervision of probationers, parolees and pardonees.

According to Ms. Josephine T. Villanueva Chief Department of Justice Parole and Probation Office in her speech this morning: “In Iligan City volunteers are not only working to monitor their clients in some barangays they are assigned, they also find means and ways to support their clients. With the help of VPA President Barangay Captian Pablito Abragan Jr., Probationers, parolees and pardonees were encouraged to engage themselves in skills training that include basic 6 month training in carpentry from TESDA. At present 45 parolees padoness and conditional pardoness had been benefited from these training.”

Ms. Villanueva concluded her speech by thanking the Iligan LGUs for extending their help in making Volunteer Probation Aide program a success. by: Irma Boza
