LGU Iligan joins International Women’s month celebration

(Monday, 12th day of March 2018)

The city local government of Iligan led by City Mayor Celso G. Regencia, Vice-Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz and the city councilors, celebrate National Women’s Day, March 8, 2018 at the city public plaza.

Thousands of local government employees and women from the 44 barangays, different Iligan City women’s organizations and other private sectors gathered to celebrate the International Women’s Day. The National Women’s Day is in line with the celebration of the International Women’s Day, a celebration of women’s achievements throughout the history all over the world. This is also known as the United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. In Iligan City, the City Mayor’s Office Gender and Development Office (GAD) spearheaded the annual celebration, this is to give recognition to the contributions of our women in this city. Ms. Laura Faye Zaragoza-Diaz, Division Head, Gender and Development Office, said that the local government has been initiating plans and programs for the benefit of our women especially to those who are less fortunate. You women, are the light of our homes, and since you are the light, you should not be abused. Here in Iligan, we are giving equal opportunities to our women. As you can see, in the line of our department heads today, you can see women. Therefore, the women should not say that you are reduced to housework only, nowadays, you already have the rights to hold an office, but if ever that happens, please don’t abuse your husbands.) Mayor Regencia said. I will encourage you to lose your claims that being woman is frail or weak, our society would not be successful. I want you to stand, resist, so we can build up the whole people of Iligan), He added.
