ILIGAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – This year’s celebration of Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) adopted as its theme “ Health Products’Quality, Efficacy, Safety and Transparency . . . Everybody’s Concern” which underscores the basic rights of consumers to quality, affordable, safe and effective health products. It also reminds consumers of his/her responsibility to be critically aware in every aspect of consumption.
The yearly celebration of the CWM, which is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1098, issued in September 26, 1997, is led by the Department of Trade and Industry in coordination with the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC). Since the theme reflects on the health aspect, the Department of Health (DOH) through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was designated as the host-agency.
In Iligan City, kick-off activity will be the launching of the CWM celebration during the city government’s flag raising ceremony at the Anahaw Ampitheater on Tueday, October 1, 2013. It will be led by Mayor Celso G. Regencia and Dra. Cañaveral of the City Health Office (CHO). Highlighting this year’s activities are the 9th LPCC Quiz Bee and various multi-sectoral for a/seminars that will heighten consumer advocacy.
As we celebrate Consumer Welfare Month this year, we should know and exercise our right to choose products that are of high quality and affordable.//DTI-LDN
