People’s Day Comeback in Luinab, a Great Success

(Monday, 12th day of February 2018)

ILIGAN CITY – The city government of Iligan, headed by Mayor Celso Regencia and the councilors held the first “People’s Day” for the year 2018 on February 9, at Barangay Luinab Gymnasium. We can recall that this program was put to a halt during the outbreak of the strife in Marawi last year. The program’s goal is for the mayor and the councilors to personally visit each barangay in the city to see for themselves the concerns in each barangay and feel the people of Iligan.

Another aim of the said program is to reach out to the masses and bring the programs of the government like free medical consultations, free medicines, free grooming services, and pet vaccinations to the people.

In this event, the department head of different government offices and agencies also give their updates and reports to the public for transparency and for the public to better understand the situation of the city.

“We have scholarship programs for the people of Iligan,” said Mr. Glenmoore Longakit, from the City Human Resource Management Office. “The scholarships available are for elementary pupils, highschool students, and even college students,” he added. This program intends to give the less privileged youth a chance for a better future with proper education.

“Atong total income, general fund, ug special account, P1.9 Billion. P1.9 Billion ang atong kwarta. Naa tay ginabayrang utang sa patubig ug basura. 450 million ang atong basura, 230 million ang atoang tubig. Mao na atong ginabayaran kada-tuig. Obligasyon kanang naa sa bisan kinsa nga mo-lingkod,” (Our total income, general fund, and special account is P1.9 billion. Our money is P1.9 billion. We have debts for water and garbage. The garbage debt is worth 450 million, while the water costs 230 million. That’s what we are paying for annually. That’s an obligation for whoever sits in the position.) Said Mayor Regencia. We, together with the councilors and department heads are expressing our apologies if ever we have shortcomings and lapses because we are not fairies or magical beings that with a blink of an eye, we can make everything happen. These projects in Iligan won’t end with my term, these won’t stop, and these will go on. While we breathe in this world, our jobs will go on, our struggles in life will continue, therefore our efforts are endless, especially for our children to whom we will entrust the leadership of our city in Iligan.) He added.

The opening for this year’s People’s Day was a great success and this certainly won’t be the last.
