People’s Day Held at Brgy. Kabacsanan

(Tuesday, 26th day of February 2019)

Iligan City – Different programs and services were given by the Local Government Unit of Iligan City during the People’s Day. The services given during the program were: Medical Check-up, Medicines, Blood Typing, Haircut, Packed Lunch, 2 kilos of rice each, Legal Assistance (specifically: Affidavit of two [Disinterested Persons], Affidavit of Loss, Special Power of Attorney, Contract, Affidavit of Same Persons), Dental Check-up and Tooth Extraction, Rabies Vaccination for Pets, Police Clearance, Eyeglasses for Senior Citizens and Ear Piercing. All the services were given for free as it has always been. The said program was held in Barangay Kabacsanan Gymnasium, this city on February 22.

Meanwhile, Atty. Demosthenes Plando, Chairman on the Committee on Laws, Rules, Labor and Employment said that there will be a soon to rise free college education for those parents who cannot afford to send their children to college universities because of poverty and lack of resources especially to the hinterland barangays of Iligan City wherein, this would be a mobilizing LGU support for basic education. He further explained that this program is for those from poor families to provide them a fair chance at fighting poverty. Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz also said that this would provide all Iliganons equal opportunities to quality education in both private and public educational institutions. “Naa unta ta’y MSU-IIT diri sa dakbayan nga maayo og kalidad og libre ang tuition pero dili sad tanan swertehon maka skwela sa maong unibersidad intawon kay kinahanglan pa mu take sa maong exam (SASE) ug mabagsak dili gyod makapa-enrol.” (We may have MSU-IIT in our city that provides excellent and quality education and free of cost but not everybody is lucky enough to attend the university because they have to pass the entrance test first [SASE] and if they fail, they wouldn’t be allowed to enrol.) He said.

The “People’s Day” was indeed successful as it manifested that the city government worked for the people through establishing the delivery of services. Mr. Steward Dumalagan of Community Affairs Office, as he always stated, “Buwis sa katawhan, ibalik sa katawhan,” (The tax of the people, should be given back to the people). Despite the issues thrown to the city mayor, he still managed to continue to provide services through reaching out to the people through this program. This program has been conducted since 2015.
