Persons with Disability activity successful

(Thursday, 19th day of September 2013)

ILIGAN CITY – The Person with Disabilities (PWD) activity held yesterday at Rizal Park started at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 8:00 in the evening. The  successful program featured Fun Walk, Art and Coloring Contest, Interpretative Dance, Cultural Night and PWDs Got Talent Contest participated in by six PWD schools in the city.

Persons with disabilities is under the committee of City Councilor Samuel “Tatay” Huertas, Chairman of the Committee on Marginalized Sector, PWDs and Special Children of the city.  In a talk with the members of the media, Councilor Huertas praised the PWDs for their zealous participation and said he will continue to focus his concern to persons with disabilities. ###(with reports from Dante E. Clean-up drive in coastal areas of Barangay Saray successful

The Clean-up Drive along the coastal areas of Barangay Saray on September 18 at 8:00 a.m. was successfully conducted.

Leading the activity was Eduardo Yap, an environmentalist and coordinator of Iligan Asia Pacific Region assisted by Project AWARE – International, a non-profit environmental organization together with Save Iligan Movement People Against Crime and Corruption (SIMPACC).

The objective of the activity is to maintain the cleanliness of areas near the sea.

The clean-up drive activity will again be conducted tomorrow in the coastal areas of Barangay Tambacan this city.

The activity is supported by the local government and one of the 8-point agenda of Mayor Celso G. Regencia in Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Development in the city.###(with reports from Edward Loyola/CIO)

Catholic Church prepares for the “Pagpakana-ug” (lowering down of the statue of St. Michael, the archangel)

The authorities and the clergy has already made preparations for the ritual of lowering down of the statue of St. Michael from the altar which will start at 7:00 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Cathedral on September 20.

It will be simple ceremony, the usual practice that is the participation of politicians in the ritual will no longer be observed.  The lowering down of San Miguel from the altar will be led by Bishop Elenito Galido of the Diocese of Iligan, Mons. Jemar Vera Cruz, vicar general, other priests and the religious sector.

The lowering down of the statue of St. Michael’s, where the Diyandi and the Komedya de San Miguel pay homage to the patron saint, rituals that show our own culture and depicts of St. Michael’s “celestial battle,” and the miracles of St. Michael’s for so many decades to where the saint is known as the protector of Iliganons and of peace in Iligan.  (With reports from Eduard A.
